History: James Fox (originally from Virginia) came from Kentucky and entered this land in 1843. Reuben S. Fox, probably his son, purchased adjoining lands in 1844. Absalom M. Potts, a large slave holder, owned most of the surrounding property. On later maps, a school house is located across the road. The original cemetery was near the front fence line on the west side of the home place, near N Hwy. The stones were beneath a large shade tree that was struck by lightning and burned. In time, all the markers became buried. In 1995, earth-moving work in that area uncovered four stones and they were moved to the yard area and laid flat on the ground. Since all of the discovered stones were for related people, it was most likely a family cemetery; not a public one.
